Critical Speeds are shown for standard size tubing in the graph below. For other tubing sizes or lengths not shown, the "MAXIMUM SAFE OPERATING SPEED" is based on a value 75% of the theoretical maximum speed. The Maximum speed is determined by the following formula:
 

 
Critical Speeds for driveshaft tube sizing also occur at 1/2 the maximum safe operating speed. Speeds to avoid in this range are 8% higher or lower than the actual value. The
"CRITICAL 1/2 SPEED" is determined by the following formula:
 

 
I.D. = Inner Diameter of Tube, O.D = Outer Diameter of Tube, L = Effective Length
